Question: I have an alkaline phosphatase of 139, my liver is inflamed and hard at times. What is the cause of this?
Answered by Dr. Praveen 1 hour later
Brief Answer:
ALP is non-specific

Detailed Answer:
Hi sir.Thanks for your query.

Alkaline phosphatase(ALP) is normally in the range of 25-100 units (varies according to laboratory reference). It suggests of two problems- liver or related to bone.

According to your description I would understand that you are having high ALP due to liver condition.Since high ALP is non-specific for liver disorders I were to evaluate and work up for either of the below mentioned conditions-

-hepatitis (inflammation or infection of the liver)
-cirrhosis (scarring of the liver)
-cholescystitis (inflammation of the gallbladder)
-blockage of bile ducts (from gallstone, inflammation, or cancer)

I would wish to understand what were your presenting complaints and the reason for consult your physician to assist you further.

Please feel free to reach for further queries.

I have gallbladder stones, can they be the problem I m having that every few minutes I feel like I have to pee. When I do pee, very little is coming out. In the mornings I pee like normal, like nothing is wrong and then it starts. It doesn t burn when I go. Sometimes when I wipe there is pink on the toilet paper. The urine looks normal in the bowl. No odor. I have no pain anywhere. What can this be? Can it be related to premenopausal as well?

Hello Dortor, Thank you for doing the night schedule and your dedication. Isn t the some test in the blood test, called a sedimentiary (SP) test, I think, that tells that there is problem with the liver or gallbladder? About 20 years ago I had two gallstones and because of these tests in the blood tests, I number or % listed as the average marker what ever test is was used to be on the low edge and then went to normal the last 6 years. Had blood tests 1 or more times each year. Nothing more was ever said. I don; t have heartburn or anything a gallbladder digestive than one would have. Jan. 7-10 I had a scale 9 pain spaisms, where my kidnes are, a fever On the 10 I went to the ER and spent 2 days and one night in the Hospital. By a scan then sonar they found I had a serious inflamed gallbadder. Surgeon said it had to be operated on. Did that Feb. which will have two weeks this Fri.. The night of the operation there was a snafu at the pharmacy and the Dr. on duty did not ask my surgeon to please call me ASAP for I had no pain medicine. This wasn t done, altho one pharmcist said he was really angry with me. He denyed this. Make along story shorter, I went through 26 hrs of 8.5 pain and by the way I have a high pain tolerance. Ok, how come I didn t have any pain, discomfort no symptons and not test indications I was having problems until it seriously inflamed. after the operation The surgeon the ballbladder was in really bad shape. Thank you and God Bless, I now have an infection, swolling around the navel, pus, blood, swelling. I have it bandaged. The Dr. pushed all the pus out of it around the naval. Very Painfu. Thanks again

My husband, age 76, has had dizziness, right hand tingling, occasional headaches, and feeling nausea. He has had this for about a year now. His energy level is very low after doing a small chore. He has had CT scans (head), ultra sounds of the stomach which proved he has a polyp on his gallbladder. He had his prostate (cancerous) out about 9 years ago. He had 33-34 radiation treatments for this and was put on hormone treatment for two years. His blood pressure is normally fine and blood test show bilirubin normal although he has gall stones contained within the gallbladder. His doctor believes that he has the onset of Parkinson s disease but a specialist he was sent to says no. One other doctor also does not believe he has Parkinson s disease. So - what is wrong? He is becoming baffled as to what is happening to him. Please can someone help.

I have sharp pain that comes and goes near my belly button, maybe down and a little to right. I have had this on and off for years, but certain times I ll have an attack. Now is one of those times and probably worst ever lasted for over 12 hrs sharp pain when it comes is a 10, coming and going from 15 min intervals to maybe an hour, no consistency, always have diarrhea with it, but again this time completely watery. I am 41 years old. When I have gone to doctors they schedule colonoscopy endoscopy, but they can t find anything cause my symptoms are gone by then, attack is over, so they find nothing.Closest thing my doctor suggested was gall bladder sludge that may be irritating my bowl or bile duct . My lipids were elevated during attack so he said it may also be irritiating my pancreas . How do I know if it is my bowl or gallbladder.

I'm male and 48 years old. I had blood work for a physical last week and everything was perfect except for a moderately elevated Alkaline Phosphatase at 214. All other liver enzymes, blood work, and urine were perfectly normal. I have no symptoms...
