What Does A Hard Lump On The Soft Palate Indicate?

Question: Hi Dr, I’m an 52 year old male. I have Hard lump just on top of my soft palate next to uvula . The lump was pink, medium, and painless. One weeks ago I found it but before I didn’t noticed. My family don’t have any mouth problem. Also I visited to my GP and referred to Dental Surgeon in Dental hospital. Could this be dangerous? And what remedy I need to do. I uploaded my lump photo. before lump look like tiny cauliflower (guess not soft) and this lump touch with my tongue but not hurt. now lump little bit reduce. I am not a smoker. I've Diabetic and High blood pressure. I don't have any cough or throat problem now. why I was scarred GP's refereed form to Oral Surgeon say Lumps/Mass in Oral Cavity. Two days I couldn't sleep. As far as the soft tissue lump is concerned, I have the following possibilities. It can be a papilloma or focal epithelial hyperplasia. These lesion usually occurs secondary to either viral infections or irritation. Nothing to be panic, it's a benign lesion. It will not harm you. if it increases in size or interfere with function then get it surgically removed. Usually dentist or surgeon use the terminology growth or mass to describe any excess tissue in the oral cavity. Nothing to worry.

Thanks Dr XXXXXXX Do I need ask GP prescribe a course of antibiotics. Also I don't know how long this Growth in soft Palate before that time I feel foods struck in my throat. after salt gargles then little bit reduce that lump now. Thats the the reason I ask about antibiotics. Please advise

Nothing to worry. No need of antibiotics. Antibiotics will not help.If it is bothering then you need to get it surgically removed. Otherwise you can just leave it like that. Keep an eye on that growth. If it increases in size then get it surgically removed. Consult an Oral and maxillofacial surgeon and get it surgically removed if it is interfering in swallowing. Thanks for your reply. If you get it excised, you need to follow a post surgical instructions like following soft and bland diet for 5 days. We cannot predict the recurrence of the lesion. it can reoccur in 20 to 28% cases. Nothing to worry about reccurence. You need to maintain oral hygiene by brushing your teeth and prevent any irritation to that area.

Thanks Dr for your Good Advise and I will follow. also I uploaded latest my lump photo for your view. From Last September I am on Paleo Diet(LCHF) for weight lose. also Last two months I eat lots of Green Chilies, Jalapeno with Salad and hot meat curry and before sleep take Apple cider vinegar. Now I stop take taking Apple cider vinegar. because for that Lump in my soft palate. I am planning visit XXXXXXX on August so will visit your surgery around end of August.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX I am back again. I have uploaded some photo files to you for review. Before I couldn't chat you because Money run out. Now I recharged money again. when I search in Google about papilloma, focal epithelial hyperplasia and say HPV virus. But my case I don't do any oral sex. what's your advise. also is this lump as oral warts. I am confusing about HPV virus term. Also I try to call your Clinic and not reach. Tomorrow I am going to see Oral surgeon. Thats the reason I'm scarred. Please help

Thanks for your query. I have gone through your images.

Papilloma can be secondary to HPV virus infection but literature says it's an additional finding and the cause for papilloma is unknown. Some studies have reported that papilloma can occur in patients with immune suppression or low immunity by HPV. It is not necessary that it should spread by oral sex. Based on the clinical appearance I am suspecting papilloma, so get it surgically excised and send for histopathological examination which confirms the diagnosis. Before getting it surgically removed get your complete blood investigations done. Since it is a small lesion nothing to worry.
Papilloma or oral warts are the synonyms.
