What Does AST Result Of 300 Indicate?
Question: Hi, My AST results came back at 300 and ALT at 88. I know that those are both very high but how dangerous. Thank you so much for your help.

Hello and thanks for your question.
These numbers are consistent with an alcoholic hepatitis. You need to be tested to make sure that you do not also have hepatitis B or C but when the AST is higher than the ALT this is most often from alcohol rather than a viral infection.
Stopping the tylenol is great because it is also toxic to the liver.
It is hard to say how dangerous this is.
If you are able to get off all alcohol, then there is a good chance that this will not do you any permanent harm. The liver is very resilient and can often heal if the damaging substances are removed. Long term damage ends in cirrhosis and that is very serious. The liver cannot heal from that much damage.
I would say that getting off the alcohol is pretty urgent. Please seek help and find a way to get off of it safely.
