Posted on Mon, 21 Apr 2014
Question: My recent report of the pelvis scan: Retroverted uterus with a proliferative endometrium of 5.8mm. Right ovary measured 4.0x3.3x3.7cms(volume=25.4cc) A follicle seen in the right ovary measuring 1.8x1.3x1.6cms Right ovary showed a cyst with internal echoes measuring 1.8x1.4x1.8cms, with scattered vascularity but more towards the centre with RI of 0.38. Left ovary showed a cyst with internal echoes with fibronous like bands measuring 2.3x2.0x2.2 cms, with scattered vascularity noted with RI of 0.46. Next week they will be doing a biopsy through laporoscopy. kindly suggest if this could be malignant or benign.

Brief Answer: CA125 and biopsy findings conclusive Detailed Answer: Hello mam, Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic. After studying your report I would like to ask you - your age - symptoms you are experiencing -history of infertility - ovarian cancer in family. If you are in child bearing age, then probably it is a benign tumor especially if you have history of infertility. In case you belong to peri-menopausal age group or there is history of ovarian cancer in family then there are chances of malignancy because of high ovarian volume and increased endometrial thickness. I would suggest you to get CA125 levels checked and get the laparoscopy done. Levels of CA125 and biopsy report will be conclusive. Regards

The CA level is 12. I have had 3 c-sections. I have heavy bleeding since almost a year. I have no specific symptoms as such except that I am anaemic for the past one year. Currently the blood level is increasing with iron tablets. Doctor has put me on antibiotic ONI-O for 7 days. I am just hoping that these might help. My last child is about to complete 2 in XXXXXXX

Brief Answer: non malignant ovarian mass most probably Detailed Answer: Hello mam, I'm pleased to know that the levels of CA-125 are on lower side. This excessive bleeding you are experiencing is due to the ovarian cysts only. The antibiotic will help you in getting relieved of any subclinical infection of endometrium or pelvic region. In my opinion you should go for the laparoscopic biopsy and assessment to specify the cause which is most probably a benign one because of favorable factors viz low CA-125 levels and young age. Wish you the best of health and a favorable surgical outcome.
