What Do These MRI Findings For Multiple Sclerosis Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Dec 2014
Question: My daughter age 31 yrs was diagnosed with MS a week ago. She had symptoms of loss of sensation in her fingers and toes like wearing a glove or sock. She also has a stiff neck which had enlarged lymph nodes for awhile. The lymph nodes have gone down in size but she still has some frontal neck pain which causes a headache between her eyes and on her temples. Her MRI showed lesions on her brain and spinal cord. She tested low for Vitamin D (only a 6) and she also tested 187 on a serum vitamin B 12 test. The neurologist she saw diagnosed her MS from Dawson's Fingers on her brain MRI. All other tests for her nerves came back normal. Her ANA and ACE test were normal. Can anything else show as Dawsons Fingers as she has great mprovement after her vitamin B 12 injection and her toes and fingers numbness went away after starting on high doses of vitamin D3.

Brief Answer:
Most likely MS

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted the symptoms, MRI findings, blood test reports and improvement with treatment, for your daughter.

The MRI findings are very typical for MS, and we need not consider another diagnosis.

Regarding the improvement with vitamin B12 and D supplements, it is well known in MS also.

In fact, vitamin B12 and D supplements should be continued along with treatment for MS.

I hope my reply has helped you.

I would be pleased to answer, if you have any follow up queries or if you require any further information.
