Question: My Husband got his health checks done 3 months ago. Below are the value:
age-32.
Weight - 75
Height - 5 ft 8 inches
Fasting glucose - 100
Post lunch glucose - 129
A1C - 5.7
TSH- 8
Tryglicerides - 310

He increased his work out, NO Medication. Cut down his carbs and now the values:
Weight - 70
FBS-102
Post lunch glucose-129
A1C-5.4
TSH-9.8
Tryglicerides - 270

Fasting glucose has increased even after reducing the weight. IS TSH a culprit here. Please advice.

Brief Answer:
Please start on thyroid medications

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.

He is having subclinical hypothyroidism - a small decrease in thyroid gland function, Prediabetes - fasting sugars borderline elevated, after food and HbA1c normal now, Triglycerides is high- could be due to thyroid problem.

It is better that you get started on a small dose of thyroid hormones ( like 25 mcg per day) and retest the blood parameters after 2 months. There is no need for medications for pre diabetes as of now. If triglycerides are not normalised after correction of thyroid problem, you must get started on medications for decreasing triglycerides.

Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.

Thank you for the response. I would like to know if FBS not decreasing even after exercise and reducing weight, is also due to elevated TSH .

Thanks in advance!! XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
This is unrelated to elevated TSH

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXX,

This is unrelated to elevated TSH. He can continue with lifestyle modifications an regular monitoring of FBS, PPBS and HbA1c. We shouldn't be worried of a sing elevated FBS when other parameters are normal.
