What Do These ALT And AST Levels Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 11 May 2015
Question: I had blood work done for a life insurance policy. My ast was 37, my alt 64, but all other liver tests were within range. I have hyperthyroidism, and was on an ibuprofen regimen for it to reduce inflammation, but it didn't work. Are these numbers bad?

Brief Answer:
No worries all normal

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and I understand your concern. Your blood work up is perfectly fine so is your ALT and AST. Although AST is upper limit of normal but recent use of ibuprofen and inflammation history this slight increase is insignificant.

We only worry about the ALT and AST when they are at least double than upper limit of normal and has an underlying liver cause like hepatitis etc.

Your enzymes were just raised because of ibuprofen and recent inflammation. Liver metabolizes this NSAIDS and that causes slight raise in enzymes levels although they are still in normal range.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.
