Posted on Fri, 24 Feb 2017
Question: Hi Dr,

How are you going? I have a few questions concerning the female genitals.

Does the pubic hair also white dust? If I have forgotten to wash my hands after touching pubic dust, what are the risks associated with touching everyday objects such as door handles and books ? Is the mode of pubic dust bacteria contagious to others ? Is it harmful?? What bacteria will it need to survive such conditions on hands and door knobs? What bacteria is found on hands?

Thank you so much for your help and I would appreciate your time if you could answer all my questions. Thanks again!

Brief Answer:
It is some infection - Fungal mostly.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Healthy pubic hair do not have any dust in it. If you have developed such dust in pubic hair, it is pathological and needs treatment.

Such dust may be due to:

1. Fungal infection of vagina. Vaginal discharge gets painted in the pubic hair and after drying causes crusts there.

2. Ring worm of the pubic skin.

3. Dandruff type of infection.

The type of infection should be identified before starting any treatment. Please report to a Dermatologist for it. Please inform me what kind of micro-organisms are they. Whatever the infection, please follow the instructions given below:

1. Clip the hair flush to the skin.

2. Use the appropriate medicines for the type of infection.

3. Boil the underwear daily.

4. Use panty-liners daily.

5. Apply lactobacilli perineal wash to the whole perineum and inside the vagina also.

6. This can spread by sexual contact also. So please get your partner examined for such infection and he should have simultaneous treatment.

7. Observe sexual abstinence till both of you are declared cured.

The infection is contagious and hence handling the articles should be done carefully and hygienically.

For any more information, you may ask me anytime, XXXX.

Hi DR Shrotri,

Thanks for your reply. I'm assuming it's a dandruff type infection. I haven't received any smelly discharge. Could you please identify if that type of bacteria (dandruff) is dangerous and is easily transmissible ? What type of diseases can it cause to the hands and everyday objects?

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Do not avoid consulting Dermatologist

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

Please do not assume that it is dandruff, get it confirmed from the Dermatologist. Dandruff of the pubic area is not that common.

The type of bacteria for dandruff are the same everywhere. You should avoid keeping the skin dry. This infection is easily transmissible. It does not cause any disease to hands, however can be easily transmitted to the other individuals by direct contact. Please clip the nails flush to avoid transmission through the nails.

I am always available for you for any more advice and information, XXXX.

Hi Dr Shrotri,

I just wanted to know if you could further clarify different modes of transmission. Is it likely that if I've forgotten to wash my hands after touching my pubic hair, that dandruff from my genitals can transmit to objects such as door knobs, plastic bags and books? How long will that bacteria last for? Is the survival rate high? Also Will a person catch a disease from pubic bacteria if they handles objects which i touched when I didn't wash my hands?

Thanks again!

Brief Answer:
Contact is infectious

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX,

These infections are contagious; they spread by direct or indirect contact to the infected parts or organs. The bacteria on the objects have no limit of life. As the comb can spread the dandruff from the scalp hair, these pubic hair infections also can spread through different infected objects, if shared. Yes, the books do carry many bacteria if exposed to. The same thing stands true for the other objects also. Hence, please do not share the articles which come in direct contact of your pubic area. That is why I advised you to observe sexual abstinence till you are correctly diagnosed and cured.

You may consider posting a good review with 5 stars rating for me.
