What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Penis And Rectum?

default
Posted on Mon, 14 Nov 2016
Question: hello again doctor,
i really want your opinion on this.
It has been 80 days since my unprotected exposure.
On the second day i started getting that burning/sensitive/tingling sensation in penis and rectum. No burning during urination only after, no discharge, no lesions or sores or red spots anywhere till today. some redness in scrotum and penis head. Urge to pee is there when sensitivity happens.

Did test PCR RealTime HIV, HBV & HCV post exposure 25 days and negative for all.
Tested 70 days post exposure for all other bacterial STI and STD like herpes etc using PCR through blood and swab (from inside penis) and all came negative except HSV1 antibody was positive in blood but negative in swab.
please find attached reports

The pain/uncomfortable tingling feeling inside urethra and rectum is still there.
I think it got agitated more after the swab test was taken.
What would you recommend me doing at this stage?

Brief Answer:
Symptoms may be due to anxiety or STI phobia.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sami,
Welcome once again to HCM.
STIs are more than 25 diseases in number.
Burning sensation of penis and rectum and redness of penis head can occur in diseases other than HIV.
Yeast infection is a common problem for both men and women following unprotected sex. Yeast infection can manifest on the second day whereas HIV, Syphilis Hepatitis, HSV would not have manifested by second day following an exposure.
A careful examination and investigation can confirm the diagnosis.
HIV, HBV, HCV PCR 25 days after the risk contact are highly reliable and negative PCR ruled out these disease. But HIV PCR ruled out only the HIV 1 infection and not HIV 2 (needs separate PCR for HIV 2). But HIV 2 infection is prevalent less than 0.5% throughout the world other than certain countries in XXXXXXX
Tests for bacterial STIs and HSV 70 days after the exposure are also reliable and conclusive.
HSV 1 infection is not a STI. HSV 1 also was negative in the report sent by you.
Tingling sensation of penis and rectum are sometimes due to your anxiety and fear for STIs.
You consult a Dermato-venereologist or a physician expert in the management of STIs and follow his/her guidance.

HSV1 was positive in blood of antibody but report wasnt attached...the PCR was done on the swab taken from inside urethra.
I saw a urologist and he told me that sometimes chemical reaction from intercourse can such complications and that only time can solve this irritation...but rly its not in my head, the pain and irritation is real...any meds i can take to heal this irritation/inflammation?

Brief Answer:
You are free from HIV and major STIs.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome back.
Presence of antibodies in the blood indicates that the individual came across the infection sometime or other. It could be due to either an active or an older infection. PCR detects the presence of virus. So Negative PCR and positive antibody test indicates a past infection, that too, a non- STI infection (HSV1). Not to worry.
When the major STIs were ruled out by negative tests, not to worry.
As I told already, consult a Dermato-venereologist or a STI expert, rule out yeast infection and get well soon.
