Brief Answer: Take high doses of Vit B12 + Folic acid Detailed Answer: Hi Mr. XXXXXXX Thanks for your query. IBS/diarrhoea leads to impaired absorption particularly of Vitamins B12 and Folates. Deficiency of these vitamins cause abnormal sensation in the limbs, particularly lower limbs. Compression over the nerves (supplying the legs) by bulging discs of the lower spine is the other common cause. A CT/MRI can of the lower spine will rule out/detect bulging discs, which- when treated- will relieve you of the symptoms. I would advise you to get Blood Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid levels done to detect their deficiency. Even if you do not wish to get the test done, an empirical, long-term (3-6 months) course of high doses of Vitamin B12 (mecobalamin 1500 micrograms/day) and Folic Acid 5mg/day should give you complete relief. I do not feel that the present medications would give any relief. Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me; order required tests, and prescribe suitable treatment as advised. Hope I have addressed your concerns to your complete satisfaction and you find my response helpful and informative. I will be happy to answer further queries, if any. Take care, Col (Dr.) Rakesh Karanwal

Brief Answer: Improvement will be manifest within a few weeks Detailed Answer: Hi Mr. XXXXXXX Nice to hear back from you. The effect of high doses of vitamins come up gradually, over a period of few weeks. However, you should begin noticing mild relief within 2-3 weeks of starting the vitamins in the prescribed doses. Take care
