What Causes Tightness And Feeling A Pulled Muscle At Right Side After Sneezing?

default
Posted on Wed, 21 May 2014
Question: Hello...thankyou...Recently I have had multiple sneezing episodes which are allergy driven...I'm 58 yrs old and excersize frequently (mostly Run/Walk) 4-5 miles 4 times/wk...these sneezing episodes have gone on now for approx. 2 weeks and I expect them and take Allegra if they get to out of control...they have diminished in duration but my last attack of "3" in a row..was quite strong and after the last sneeze I felt as if a muscle let loose around the area of my right kidney...feels like I have been kidney punched when I sneeze now and have tried disparately not too sneeze...a pulled muscle I can handle...but could I have done something to my kidney?...No pain in that location between sneezes..just alittle tightness..takes my breath away...can reproduce the effect if I cough too hard and/or bend forward to touch my nose...should I just take more Allegra and hope for the best?

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Thanks for your query and an elucidate history chronologically ad logically too.

Yes, as you have rightly thought, you have a sprained muscle in the right kidney area.
No, it is not possible to get the kidney injury or so due to the sneezing attack.

I would advise such patient to get clinically examined by a Doctor to rule out the possibility of a muscle tear and even development of a hernia( this is a known site of development of hernia) just on a safer side.

Yes, you should continue Allegra once daily till the sprain has healed well. You may please use the steroid nasal spray to avoid any further sneezing as even a single act of sneezing can increase your problem. You may also take all the care to avoid any such activity which can cause tress on the muscles involved. Take laxatives if there is constipation. No bending, pulling or pushing anything.
Give it the time to heal.

Wishing you an early and complete recovery.
Please feel free to ask for more if you have any further queries.
