Question: Hi, what would the symptoms of my sisters problem of swollen stomach on the right and severe abdominal pains, loosing blood from the anal passage, feeling totally drained and have also had back pain which seems to have shifted to the front indicate? She went for a blood test last week but the nurses called for an ambulance and was taken to hospital as they thought she had a stroke. She is unsure of what happened. but was released later as the doctor said she had not had a stroke. She was very dehydrated which I believe caused her to collapse but I am concerned for her health. She is booked in with the doctor tomo morning but want to find out more or ask for a outside opinion as I have been reading about ovarian and other cancers relating to this area. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Colonoscopy should be done.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Such symptoms at her age (over 50) can indicate colon cancer or inflammatory bowels disease. Especially if the blood is mixed with the stool (not on its surface), she has lost some weight recently, has bloating, cramps, nausea.
Weakness and collapse history can be due to dehydration or anemia or both. Back pain can be present due to kidneys infection which can appear due to dehydration.

She definitely should have diagnostic done. Blood work, urine analysis, abdominal CT (or ultrasound) and most important - colonoscopy should be done to find out the reason. She should not wait with it.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
