What Causes Sweating, Tightness Of Chest, Weakness While Treating Arthritis?

default

Question: My husband was taken to the emergency room this morning. He was sweating, tightness of chest and overall weakness. He has had an artery blockage that was taken care of and he has arthritis, for which he is taking HUMIRA. He is also an epliptic which he takes medicine for also. He had been scooping snow and he is 60 years old. They said the EKG was fine and bloodwork came back all right. They also did a chest X-ray and that was fine. He was also sick at his stomach. This is a rural hospital that doesn't have a great reputation for getting things correct. He is at home now but still has tightness in his chest. Do you have any idea of what this is or what I should do for him?

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

1. It is normal to have that feeling sometimes when you stand up and having your heart rate speeding up naturally with movement. As mentioned above, in people with PACS and PVC, this is quite often and considered normal. And this symptoms aren't related to vagal dystonia.

2. Once again, I don't want to precipitate in final conclusions. As long as your diagnostic tests did not find anything wrong so far, then, I still think you should run Tilt test to rule out vagal dystonia. Keep in mind that vagal dystonia isn't a medical diagnosis. Tilt test will exclude any vagal dysfunction which may be the cause of your symptoms.

If even the tilt test is normal than your symptoms are related to anxiety and not to any vagal nerve involvement. otherwise you should run further examinations to find out the right etiology.

All the best!

Brief Answer:
Advised to run Cardiac test

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I am sorry for the situation your husband is in. I am also sorry for the earlier post that was uploaded mistakenly due to technical problems. From what you are describing, and if I was his caring doctor would advise to run further cardiac tests to exclude cardiovascular problems: - echocardiogram - stress test - Holter monitoring. If nothing will be shown, then, upper endoscopy is advised to rule out GERD or other stomach issues.

Hope it was of help! Dr.Benard
