Posted on Mon, 3 Oct 2016
Question: I have lived at 8200 feet elev for 12 years. Another 10 yrs prior to that. I went up ten stairs, was filling ice and water and collapsed. When I woke up my wife had 4 paramedics and 2 cops. They mandated I head down to XXXXXXX hosp. Once at the hosp, the ekg showed nothing, so did my pulimary system. My pulminologist told me that I have 8 scars from the isocynates, amines, and solvents I have worked.....eh heck.....bathed in over the past 22 years. Apparently I was just standing there getting ice and I collapsed. Whats worse is I went straight down out of the blue. I dont recall any of it. They all made me go to the hospital where I was released 1.5 hrs later. I have beeen home for the second night and when I lay to get up at 1am due to diahrea, 3 for diahrea,
5 for diaheria , my poor lttle exit port is beyond hurting. The worst part, is I can only seem to function on a lower level. My iq used to b 150. Now, a chimp probably could beat me.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

I carefully passed through your question and would explain that it is important performing a comprehensive differential diagnosis between different causes that may lead to this symptoms:

- a cardiac arrhythmia could be related to sudden loss of conscience
- electrolytes imbalance. The fact that you had diarrhea raises also suspicions of cardiac arrhythmia
- epilepsy seizures. The fact that you have memory difficulties could be associated to certain brain changes.

So, in order to investigate for the possible causes, I would recommend performing some tests:

- a resting ECG and a cardiac ultrasound to examine your heart and structure
- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to exclude possible arrhythmia
- some blood lab tests ( complete blood count, thyroid hormone levels, blood electrolytes)
- an EEG to exclude possible seizures. A brain CT scan or MRI may be needed if abnormal EEG or abnormal neurological physical examination.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
