What Causes Severe Pain In The Pelvic Area And Numbness Of Fingers?

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Oct 2014
Question: I have been diagnosed since 2010 with copd (asthma/emphysema), arthritis and fibromyalgia however for the last 4 - 6 months I have been having sever pain in the area where my legs connect to my hips along with extreme numbness and tingling in my little and index fingers all on both sides. I have also been experiencing back pain and I am currently on Oxycodone 10-325 3X daily, Xanax 1mg 3X daily and zolft along with copd meds used only when needed. However the pain in my hip joints and back are beyond getting comfort now from my meds and numbness in my fingers are a bit of a worry. I am thinking maybe stress however cancer has killed my dad and 4 of his brothers, my brother is in XXXXXXX TX awaiting a liver transplant and my mom just diagnosed with lukemia; is this possibly stress related however I find myself in constant pain, tired and I must be able to remain strong for my family at this time. Any recommendations or help please?

Brief Answer:
Spine Degenerative changes.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to health care magic. I am Dr. Ganesh.

Sorry for what you are going through with your family history.

Your symptoms are typically seen in the patients with degenerative disc disease with nerve root compress and indentation on the thecal-sac.

There is a disc between the vertebral bodies helps as a shock absorber effect, the disc contains maximum percentage of water, due to degenerative changes when the water content / hydration is lost the disc slips / bulges. This happens generally as a age related changes and excessive physical weight bearing.

In this case what you have to do is, get an lumbar spine x-ray AP/LAT ( anterior-posterior / lateral ) views. And an MRI lumbar spine will help to get definitive diagnosis.

Treatment include - back exercises followed by the physiotherapy and finally operative / interventional depending on the MRI findings.

As a remedy, take good rest, maintain positional norms, avoid weight bearing.
good luck.

Hope i have answered your query.
