What Causes Severe Heartburn When Diagnosed With Gastritis?
Question: I spent all night with heartburn. Three months ago i had the same symptoms, went to the ER . had several tests done. Everything was negative ... I was diagnosed with gastritis.
Is it possible that it could be something other than gastritis even though the tests was negative in January.

Cardiac and gastric symptoms often mimic each other. Some times recurrent heartburn (retrosternal) sensation can be a sign of stable angina (can lead to myocardial infarction). So initially some tests should be done to rule out the possibility of coronary artery disease.
Tests suggested are-
Stress test- To see if blood supply to coronary artery is normal while exercising. Any ischemia is reflected as ST-T changes.
2d echo - To rule out the any abnormality in wall motion or any leakage in valves. Left ventricle ejection fraction can also be calculated. Angina causes compromised blood supply and is reflected in form of regional wall motion abnormality.
Combined together they are almost 85% sensitive to rule out cardiac cause of chest pain.
Apart from that some test suggested are
Fasting and Post prandial blood sugar.
lipid profile.
If all these tests are normal then Gastritis and heartburn is the diagnosis of exclusion and treatment can be given on its guidelines.
You have mentioned taking Famotadine. It's a very week a drug i would strongly suggest you to better drugs like Proton pump inhibitors eg Pantoprazole. However a secondary opinion from gastroenterologist would be a good option.
Follow up with reports.
