What Causes Sensitive Scalp And Ear Bone?

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Sep 2014
Question: The bone behind my ear as well as part of my scalp is sensitive to the touch. I have had fullness in my ears as a result of a cold. I am on vacation and there are no doctors available but my doctor at home called in a Rx for me for augmentin. I haven't had fever but feel run down. I think it is mastoiditis. Will the augmentin cure it?

Brief Answer:
yes augmentin will work

Detailed Answer:
Hello

From your complaints i can make out that either you may be having a mastoiditis or an infected lymph node because of an ear infection.

Either way , augmentin is a good antibiotic and will take care of the infection. So you can take it .

However if your pain increases or you have vomiting , high grade fever or blurring of vision , then you must meet your doctor urgently.

I would also recommend you take tablet paracetamol 500 mg 2-3 times a day for the pain and tab cetrizine 10 mg at night for reducing the fullness.

Please keep the ear dry and take steam inhalation 3-4 times a day as it will help open up the ears and reduce the fullness.

Take care

Is it unusual that my scalp is sensitive to touch on the side where the mastoid is sore and should I worry that bacteria is so near the brain? Can I take Zyrtec D or would Zyrtec be a better choice?

Brief Answer:
please dont worry!

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Well , i can understand your concern , but one good thing is that you dont have fever , so it unlikely to be a severe infection , hence you can wait for sometime and continue the augmentin.

Zyncet d would be fine and will help reduce the cold and fullness , even then , please take steam inhalation 3-4 times a day as it is very effective!

If you develop any of the complaints which i mentioned before , meet your doctor.

Take care!
