default
Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015
Question: I woke up with the lump feeling at the bottom of my esophagus. It is really annoying and uncomfortable. I take Levothyroxine 150 mcg a day. I see a Nurse Practioner but this has not been an issue since I have been seeing her.

Brief Answer:
Seems to be due to GERD. Probably unrelated to Levothyroxine.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. You seem to be suffering from GERD or gastroesophageal reflux. My suggestions in such a case would be:
* Avoid long gaps between meals. Take small but frequent meals.
* Avoid chilli and spicy foods. They trigger excess gastric acid secretion and may also mess up with digestion.
* You need to take plenty of green leafy vegetables in your diet. It will provide adequate roughage and will lessen your problems.
* You need to avoid stress. Stress is a leading cause of hyperacidity.
* PPIs like omeprazole 20 mg once a day before breakfast.
* Regular morning walk and exercise is essential to maintain proper bowel movements.

Hope that helps.
