What Causes Right-sided Pain During Deep Breaths, Fever, Cold Sweats And Fatigue?

default
Posted on Tue, 13 Oct 2015
Question: I get right side pain on day one that is dull and light. By the morning of day 2 I am fatigued and it hurts to take a deep breath. I have a normal bowel movement. By the evening of day 2 I have cold sweats, fever, nausea and extreme cramping that moves from the right side of my stomach near my ribs to the center. I get extremely bloated in the center of my stomach and that air/bloating falls below my belt line. Extremely sore on day 3 but by the evening of day 3 I'm usually feeling better. I've had all sorts of testing done on my gall bladder as well as a colonoscopy which all came back normal. Seems to come after eating meat/sweets/fattier food. The span between episodes has been as long as 1.5 years and as short as 1 week. I'm a 30 year old male, 5'8" 200lbs and have been suffering from this for approximately 8 years.

Chronic Recurring Entero-Colitis?/Under Investigation

Detailed Answer:
Provisional Impression-Chronic Colitis?/Under Investigation

Hi,Welcome with your query to HCM.
I studied your query in all the details put forth by you.
I understood your health concerns which repeat with fatty/sweet/non-vet food any time over 1 week to 1.5 yrs-as follows-
Recurring attacks of following Complaints-
Day-1-Right sided pain,-Suggests-Enteritis induced by Food- with some food infection
Day-2-Morning Fatigue with pain on inspiration. By Evening -day 2-chills/sweats/fever/nausea with extreme cramping- ,which moves to central stomach, with air/bloated feel below belt-Suggests Bacteremia
Day-3-Morning-Extremely sore feeling.-Enteritis
All your lab and radiological tests for Gall bladder/Colonscopy turned out NORMAL
Impression-
Based on theses fact you seem to have Recurring food induced Entero-Colitis which is self limiting but recurring.
Mostly these happen with seasonal changes and food outing habits.
You need not worry as these are food induced Entero-Colitis,which your body is responding well as you are quite health otherwise.

To guide you on more Suggestions on how to prevent these attacks,I would need some more information as follows-
How many attacks in last 3 mths time/ or 6 mths/ or in 12 mths time?
What is your jobstyle and what are your food habits?
When you had the last attack?
Was it after partying? Was it with hotel / or outside food?
Was the last attack, with the stale food?

Awaiting your answers for further guidance.
Good Day!!

4 attacks in the last 3 months. 6 attacks in the last 6 months. 8 attacks in last 12 months. I'm an insurance agent and try to eat healthy but if I waiver from a very clean diet for an extended period of time, say, 1-2 weeks, I find myself bloated with dull pain in the right side before an onset of an attack. I'm currently on day 3 of an attack. I woke up this morning with pain to the touch in my entire stomach. Yesterday was a sharp pain in my right side with a fever that I fought with Motrin along with feeling extremely tired and depressed. I find myself on day 1 (the dull right side pain) getting extremely depressed as I can tell you exactly what is going to happen and how I'm going to feel over the next 3 days. Rarely, if ever, do the attacks seem to be related to partying or drinking alchol as I do not do much of that but can have 3-5 beers/drinks in a night and feel fine. Typically I can almost force myself to have an attack by eating a weeks worth of fattier/fried/meat/foods. I went 1.5 years with an extremely clean diet (consisting of no red meat, no fried food, no candy or excess sugar, where I ate mostly boiled chicken and vegetables, whole grains, fruits, etc. During that period of time I was excersizing daily and went from 200 to 165 lbs. Basically, if I eat EXTREMELY clean over an EXTENDED period of time, I can limit or at best do away with any "attacks". Since wavering from that diet and excersize plan I find myself with attacks more frequently. I have no problem eating healthy and excersizing however if I decide to have bacon with my eggs in the morning (which I enjoy), a random fast food meal, or a couple pieces of cake over the course of a week, I end up risking an attack. Today, on day 3 of my current attack, I will be in a better mood and begin to pass gas slowly until the pressure is off my stomach. I will more than likely make a bowel movement today for the first time in 36 hours however there is no instant relief by passing gas or having a movement. It's almost as though in the days after an attack it feels like I did 5,000 sit ups the day before. That pain or "muscle soreness" subsides over the coming days. I'm extremely frustrated as I can map out EXACTLY how each attack will play out over the course of 3 days but no Dr. can give me a remedy other than following my own findings which includes extremely bland and healthy foods. Again, I'm not opposed to eating healthier but... Jeez, give me a break. Plenty of people can eat bacon with their eggs in the morning and some good french fries the next day for lunch without being curled up in the fetal position for the next 3 days.
