Questions and answers on "Shock"

Hi. I am 40 years of age. My periods are very regular, like clockwork, they come every 26/27/28 days and can be timed easily enough. I usually have a consistent level of pain, which is very managable. However, 2 months ago a change occured in that it came on day 24, and much to my shock, this month it come on day 18, with no pain whatsoever, and lasted longer than normal. Recently over the past few months I have had sweating issues especially at night, whereas usually im a cold ish person. My weight is 9st and my height is 5ft 3inches, all very normal. I have no children. I am a healthy person also with a good diet , and daily exercise. What should I do, as I fear this may be something to do with early Menopause . My husband and I are hoping to try for a baby very soon too.

Hi, Thanks for using HCM.

Irregular periods are due to hormonal variations not necessarily menopause. As your age is 40 and trying to conceive, better to get a gynecologist help for it. Get ultrasound abdomen done for endometrial thickness and endometrial study done if this irregular bleeding...

I am having situations mostly when trying to go to sleep where I get a sudden shock that seems to start inb the chest area and goes to my arms, head, shoulders...sometimes it goes through my whole body. Last night I think I was beginning to panic because of it thinking i was going to have a heart attack or possibly die. Any ideas? I have been seeing a doctor regualrly and am 49, 238 pounds, on cholestorl medicine.

doctor1 MD

Hello,
Its possible you are having Myoclonus .Visit a Neurologist and get an opinion and an EEG done(especially with sleep deprivation), if he or she deems it necessary after taking a closer look. The doctor should also be able to help decide if this is occurring as part of late onset Juvenile...

Hi
My mother had a sudden onset of dry cough which also developed into breathless 2 months back. When we took her to the doctor after 3 days of these symptoms with mild fever also the doctor advised chest xray. The results of the xray came as a sudden shock to us when it said pleural effusion in the right lung. The same day the pleural fluid was drained out (1 Litre). The colour of the fluid was straw colour. By gods grace when the fluid report had come no malignant cells were found. The doctor suspected dormant tuberclosis although no tb bacteria was found in the fluid report. Then we took her to a pulmonologist and bronchoscopist. My mother was put on medicine akurit. But my mother was having nausea and vomit as a side effect of the medicine. The second dcotor suggested a ct scan of the chest and LFT. He also changed the medicine on 22 feb to cap r cinex1000.combutol 1000. Benadon and sompraz d 40. These medicines also caused some mild side effects like loss of apetite but slowly she got adjusted. Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
In old age , reactivation tuberculosis is common. And in this, especially extra pulmonary tuberculosis in the form of pleural effusion is more common.
Since her pleural fluid is negative for malignant cells, no need to...

A month ago, I thought I was having a stroke as the left side of my face felt numb. I went to urgent care and they said it wasn't a stroke, but, I didn't do further testing. Now I have been experiencing this electric current sensation with the occasional shock in my arm and wrist. It was intense. I had a brain MRI done and they found 3 very small lesions. Docs aren't convinced its MS and want to do more testing. In the meantime, my symptoms have stopped. The electric current sensation has come and gone 2 deprecate times in 3 weeks. I'm wondering if the electric current is more a ms or an orthopedic thing?

doctor1 MD

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

Electric shock like sensations are suggestive of neuralgic pain, and not orthopaedic. However, they are not specific for MS. They can occur with ischemia (lack of blood flow to brain) or impingement of nerve in the neck.

Further investigations helpful would...

A few weeks ago i was brushing my teeth, brushed my tongue, then gagged. When I gagged it caused my to cough up mucus. I am a 26 year old smoker so that isn't uncommon. What was uncommon, however, was the presence of a decent amount of blood. After a moment of shock I remembered I hade ate my weight in red colored Darito chips before bed and discounted it as nothing. It then happened again this morning, but with far lass blood. It was also after gagging that this happened again. My throat isn't soar, but I do smoke so i force cough mucus out of my throat a lot. I am trying not to be too worried unless it happens more frequently because I have been struck with uncontrollable anxiety after convincing myself i have cancer on two seperate occasions

doctor1 MD

Hi,
Nothing to worry as bleeding might be from your gums or bitten tongue.
But as you are old smoker, smoker's cough is likely.
Go for x-ray chest to rule out any problem in your chest.
Quit smoking or smoke less as possible.
Do regular deep breathing exercise daily.
Avoid stress and anxiety.
Ok...

I have been trying to conceive and this past month was very sure that i was pregnant, I have not been pregnant before but I was feeling a laundry list of symptoms including increased sense of smell, nausea, high body temp. etc. About a week ago I began to come down with something like hay fever, sneezing a lot, runny nose, which I was ready to blame on the changing weather, but somehow I have been feeling this could have been connected to a potential chemical pregnancy (which i do not know much about). Two days ago I began my monthly bleed, which came as a complete shock, while I was sure I had conceived. The cramps came on so strongly that i vomited due to the pain. I had three straight days of horrible pain and very heavy clotting about dime size ( not too large but much much ). This morning is the fourth day of my cycle and still bleeding much heavier than usual. But the main reason why i write is because this morning I experienced extreme neck pain, I struggle to move properly because of it.

doctor1 MD

Hello

Chemical pregnancy is a condition wherein the fertilised ovum does not get implanted in the uterus. The problem may be chromosomal abnormality of the fertilised ovum or any abnormality of the uterus.

Usually most of the women donot recognise a chemical pregnancy as the symptoms occur after...

I ve had severe pain in left testicle and sometimes right for about 10 years. L4 & L5 are degenerated. L4 has all leaked out and I ve read that that might be the cause of the testicular pain as well as back pain. My pain dr said to not do any bending over and sit in a chair that reclines at work. The Nucynta helped but insurance won t cover it anymore so I m on 4 norcos a day. Not very helpful at all. Can t even tell I ve taken anything. Is there another option? The back surgeons I ve seen say they can t help me and I m not sure why. I don t know how much longer I can live with this sort of pain so often and getting worse. Especially without proper pain relief. would the shock implant treatment work for this? I m 43, 5 8 , 163lbs, I exercise and am in pretty good shape but working out seems to make me hurt worse. Laying down when I m sick helps the pain the most. Thanks for your help. evan hankins, YYYY@YYYY
