Posted on Fri, 4 Sep 2015
Question: Hello. I have a thin red vertical line rash on my chest with fine itchy bumps. I into XXXXXXX thought it was a heat rash but I'm not sure. I've been taking allergy medicine but it is still itchy. It also hurts when I take deep breaths with no other respiratory symptoms.

Brief Answer:
heat rash or shingles

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You have been experiencing a new rash on your chest that is red and itching. More than likely this is a heat rash. the heat and sweat it causing an increase in bacteria and possible fungal infection on your skin. I usually recommend using topical lamisil powder or tinactin to help reduce the rash. Keep the area as dry as possible.

Another possibility is shingles. If the rash has blisters and only on one side of your body then it could be shingles. If you have pain and blisters I recommend you see your medical provider because there are treatments that will help with shingles

In summary
1. heat rash
2. overgrowth of bacteria and fungus
3. treat with anti-fungal powder or spray
4. possible shingles if blisters and pain
5. Seek medical attention if shingles
