Posted on Mon, 28 Sep 2015
Question: My father is 70 years old. He is very active physically. These days he is having trouble standing for more than 3 minutes without any support. He walks for 1.5 hrs every morning but standing still is an issue.
He does not have any sugar or bp issue.
Are there any exercises or medicines you would recommend.

consult a neurologist for detailed clinical examination

Postural instability in elderly may be due to parkinsonism, neuropathy of other degenerative diseases.
Any previous illness, lower limb weakness, stroke, neck pain, back pain, memory problem, bladder complains.
He needs to be physically examined by a neurologist for detailed examination.
For initial workup you can get routine blood parameters like thyroid profile, vitamin B12 , urea , creatinine.
