What Causes Positive Pregnancy Test After Taking Mifegest Pill?
Question: I have taken mifigest yesterday & subsequently bleeding started & it is going on. I have taken card test today and it is still positive.why?

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:
1) As you had taken Mifegest pill yesterday, you have to take other medicine (Misoprostol) after 24 hrs. Two tabs are taken vaginally and other two orally.
2) Immediately after taking those pills, you will get vaginal bleeding and strong abdominal cramp (within next 72 hrs) till fleshy mass or clots are expelled out.
3) You may get bleeding or small clots for 1-2 weeks to resolve the abortion completely. Next, follow up examination is required after 1 week to check for retained bits or placental tissue. One pelvic ultrasound (post abortion) is quite helpful for confirmation.
4) In failed medical abortion (5% cases), surgical procedure (D & C) is required to evacuate uterine cavity completely. In such case, gynecologist can help you.
5) Urine pregnancy test or blood test may remain positive till 2-4 weeks before it comes down to normal level. Incomplete abortion should be ruled out.
You must contact with local doctor in emergency and if adverse effect occurs like excessive vaginal bleeding, abdominal cramp, vomiting, fainting etc.
