What Causes Periorbital Puffiness, Dry Mouth And Hair Loss While Having Hypothyroidism?

default
Posted on Mon, 13 Feb 2017
Question: I am hypothyroid (euthyroid hashimoto's). Was not given any treatment for several years. Now I'm feeling tired, I have puffiness under my eyes, fatique at times, dry mouth, hair loss, fingernail breakage/streaks. Recently my bloodpressure is high in my left arm and and low in my right arm. I don't know whether if my bloodpressure readings have anything to do with the thyroid or not. Seems to me I should have medication for the hypothyroid as I have a cousin that is now hypothyroid and she's feeling and looking much better after she was given thyroid medication for it. Will thyroid medication be helpful for me to try.

Brief Answer:
About Hashimoto treatment;

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for asking!
I have gone carefully through your concern.
If you have positive anti TPO antibodies, you should check the the TSH level every six months.
The symptoms you described are suggestive for under active thyroid or hypothyroidism.
So the moment to start treatment may have come but it should be confirmed by blood tests.
I would recommend to check; TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 to confirm hypothyroidism.
An ultrasound of the thyroid gland is needed also as you have a nodule.
The blood pressure is not related to hypothyroidism.
If the difference in both arms is greater than 20 mm/hg report it to your treating physician.
Hope the information will help.
Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta

I am going to the thyroid doctor for the nodule on my thyroid soon. I'm sure he will schedule a ultrasound test for the nodule on my thyroid. I'll ask him to about the tests for my thyroid as my symptoms are bothersome and increasing. Thank you kindly for the information regarding treatment. XXXXXXX
