Question: Hi My son (3y old) is complaining of pain near his buttocks and legs and crying throughout the night all of a sudden. Not sure if this is any injury related but he is crying and seems to have extreme pain. He is basically asking to massage and keeps crying

Brief Answer:
Viral infection likely or scare..visit paediatrics

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Is there anything 'visible' on the skin to the naked eye or some redness etc?
Did he have chicken pox in the last 3 years or/& did he take the chicken pox vaccination?
Was there any trauma the day/evening before..for eg did he visit the park, fall off a slide etc?
Has school (pre-school) started for him recently?
Is there any fever, anyone else (other sibling perhaps) with a cold/fever in the last week or so? Is he finding it difficult to urinate?
It is very possible to be some sort of viral prodrome or even a scare (eg fear of teacher/school/peers) that may have sparked this. Do give him a teaspoon of 5 ml (125mg/5ml) ibuprofen or Imol if readily available. If persisting, take him across to see a paediatrician as soon as possible. If in XXXXXXX region, I would be happy to recommend one; else please use this HCM site to source one.
Relax it will all sort out & Godspeed.

He has no apparent visible mark or redness. He fell from a small slide earlier in the day and was hurt his lowback through the corner of the slide, but he was alright after that for long time, its only while sleeping that he was complaining about leg pain. While we were massaging him particularly near the low back (just above the butt) he seemed to have extreme pain. For now we have crocin syrup at home is it fine to give him the same? He is not even able to stand. he also has small swelling in his penis which the dr told is a soft tissue and has asked to get it operated in the short run. Can we apply external ointment? We have omnigel ointment (Cipla) at home - We gave him chicken pox vaccine last october. We stay near sarjapur rd XXXXXXX corp office please suggest good pediatrician nearby. thanks

Brief Answer:
Go ahead with Crocin

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Yes do give crocin a try.
Avoid too much external ointment & Rubbing; note you hv used vicks already..this is of no use. It appears to be a hematoma (more likely)or it could be a condition called herpes zoster..next 24-48 hrs will tell.
Please do go across to St. John's Hospital & you could meet any paediatrician there..Dr XXXXXXX Lewin is a friend as is Dr Fulton & you could use my reference.
The reason I suggest a large hospital is because they have a good ER & if needed, other specialist present all under one roof..good in an emergency.
I work out of XXXXXXX Hospital on XXXXXXX Road & it may be a touch far for you unless it is a pure dermatology issue.
Good Luck & Godbless.
