What Causes Pain In Upper Thigh Muscles And Throat Irritation?

default
Posted on Wed, 18 May 2016
Question: I am 67 years old. In Aug of last year my upper thighs muscles began to ache very much. My regular dr. put me on prednosone. That did no good. He checked my thyroid and put me on med. for that. That has done no good. My throat is now beginning to feel tight or constricted. I have all the symptoms of hypothyroidism including unexplained weight gain, constipation, dry skin, etc. My thyroid has just been checked and, talking my med.(levothyroxine 25 mg) it was normal. Since I have gotten no answers I stopped taking it today. I also take lisinoril 25 mg., alprasolzam .5mg., tramadol 25 mg., methocarbam 750 mg., 3 fish oil, 1 baby asprin, centrum silver, and a couple of herbal supplements...I am very frustrated and weary of hurting. Should I see an endocrinologist? If the aches in my legs aren't caused by thyroid issues, what else could it be? I have been to a rhumitologist and, although he did no blood work, he said he had no idea what this problem is. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as I have always been a very active healthy woman. Please help. Thank you XXXXXXX Hargrave YYYY@YYYY . PO Box 232 Alto NM 88312 575 336 7473

Brief Answer:
Need to get further evaluation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for posting your query.

Pain in your thigh muscles could be due to problems in nerves, bones or in the muscles. You have been not evaluated properly.

I recommend you to get the following test done.

1. Serum Vitamin D 3 levels.
2. Serum Uric acid levels.
3. Serum Vitamin B12 levels.
4. Serum CPK and LDH

If these tests comes normal then we need to check whether blood supply to your thigh muscles are normal. For that a scan called Angiography of leg has to be done.

If all these tests comes normal then we need to check for nerve diseases which I shall advise later if need arises.

Do stretching excerise and if possible learn Yoga and do it everyday.

Kindly get the advised tests done and revert back with reports.

Regards.
