This has been happening since I was in my thirties. I do not get manicures or redness underneath or around fingernails, no white bluish discoloration. A ridge is created as if my body was drawing from whatever material created the nail. Ridge runs side to side, not front to back.

The better the vitamins I take, the less of a problem I have.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

The horizontal ridges you are noticing on the finger nails are called Beau's lines. These lines can occur due to many resins including thyroid disorders, diabetes, nail bed infection and vitamin deficiency.
Treatment depend on identifying and managing the underlying cause.
Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider to undergo thyroid function test, blood sugar levels and rule out nail bed infection.
Meanwhile, you can take over the counter Biotin tablets to strengthen nails.

Hope this answers your questions
