What Causes Pain In Shoulder, Back And Neck With Normal MRI And CT Scan?

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Nov 2014
Question: Good evening doctor, have been having occasional pains in the left side of my chest for the last 1 year which keeps radiating.Had undergone a complete heart check up in the month of December ( ECG,Stress Test,2D Echo, Cholesterol) which was all normal except for the cholesterol being at 202....Since after that also was experiencing occasional pains so to be on the safer side underwent a MRI and CT angiography tests. Both the tests provided normal results with the Calcium scores also being at zero.I also underwent an endoscopy test where in the doctor diagnosed me with GERD 2 . However I don't experience any pain the stomach part. Its usually on the left to middle or at times in the shoulder ,back or neck side.He had asked me to take cyclopam medication whenever I experienced pain and did get some amount of relief.....I am still continuing with this medication and also at times take an ecospirin 75 with the fear of heart problem.Recently a couple of months back had a health awareness at work where in my total cholesterol has gone up to 241....I still keep experience the pain almost on a daily basis (mild to moderate) occasionally.....Please advise as to what needs to be done as it is also impacting me mentally.....Regards,XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
your cholesterol level is quite high.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
In my opinion you are having muscular pain with anxiety. As you are getting relief from cyclopam. Another possibility is GERD. As GERD pain can be felt on left side.
And I must say your cholesterol level is too high for your age. And you should get done full lipid profile as level of triglyceride and LDL , HDL are also important. And you should start lipid lowering agent as your cholesterol is increasing From previous report.
This can be a cause for your chest pain. As high cholesterol level is risk factor for angina. And in angina attack only transient narrowing of coronaries occur which does not give any abnormality on CT or MRI or ECG. So angina due to high cholesterol can be the cause.
So I advice you to start lipid lowering agent, cholesterol free diet and start aerobic exercise. Keep yourself calm and avoid stress and anxiety.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help yoy further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
