What Causes Pain And Stiffness In The Legs And Buttocks?

default
Posted on Thu, 3 Nov 2016
Question: I'm having sudden, severe upper leg pain and stiffness which has spread to my arms. I can barely put on socks. This has been the case for about 4-5 days and is not improving. Initially, I thought I had a groin pull in my right leg, but now the pain is in both legs and extends to my buttocks. Any help would be very much
appreciated. XXXX

Last Wednesday and Thursday I took for the first time each nite 1 300 mg gabapentin for chronic scalp itch, but stopped immediately after consulting my dermatologist.
I also take 90 mg diltiazem, 325 mg ecotrin, 1000 mg fishoil each day for afib.

Brief Answer:
Spinal cord conditions to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Most common cause of legs and buttocks pain and stiffness is pinched nerve(s) at their exits or inside spinal cord.

This is true about arms too.

In your case, both cervical and lumbosacral spine may have been involved by conditions such herniated discs disease, spondylosis etc.

Relatively sudden onset favorites herniated disc disease, but doesn't exclude other conditions such arthritis, spondylosis etc.

Gabapentin is an antiepileptic drug that is used as an antineuralgic drug too, its use should have improved your pain.

It is necessary to get evaluated by your primary care Doctor who can order additional tests besides clinical examination in order to have a correct diagnosis.

Treatment depends on diagnosis.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.
