Question: Hi Dr,

How are you doing ? I am experiencing the below problems since about a month. I want to get your advice regarding the same.

I have been experiencing constipation sometimes and diarrhoea sometimes. This has been regular. Now I am experiencing diarrhoea. I need to visit the restroom regularly. I feel fatigued all the time. Night times are especially troublesome. I wake up in the middle of the night feeling tired and startled. I find it difficult to go back to sleep once I am awake.

Hi Dr. R K,

Sorry for the late response. I saw blood in stools only once. I used to feel pain while passing stools but now I don't feel it. No fever. I lost weight but it was gradual. I don't have any other medical illness. I experience shivering when it is cold. Some blood tests were done but not sure about the names. I am not on any medication.

I experience pain in the right side of chest immediately after eating. Usually goes away when I pass gas.

Thanks and Regards,

Brief Answer:
Increase fiber intake /colonoscopy

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the additional information.

Since you have red signs like blood in stools and weight loss along with altered bowel habits, I would advise you to get a colonoscopy done.

Increase the fiber intake. Take more vegetables and fruits. Drink enough fluids.

I presume a complete blood count, stool analysis, thyroid function test are already done and are within normal limits. If not done already, get them done.

Please get back to me with the results.

Regards,
Dr.R.K.

Hi Doctor,

Thanks for the response. Stool analysis was done and several blood tests were done on me. All of them came out normal. Only thing I am not sure about is whether thyroid test was done or not. I will check and let you know.

Ultrasound abdomen was done very recently and it looked good.

Of late, I am observing that if I eat raw veggies, I see leaves in my stools. Does this mean digestive capacity has reduced ?

Thanks and Regards,

Brief Answer:
Irritable bowel syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome back to HCM.
Thanks for getting back to me with more questions.

You probably have irritable bowel syndrome.

But the two symptoms blood in stool and weight loss are against it and that is the reason why I suggested some tests to be done.

Regards,
Dr.R.K
