Question: Hi I recently had a uti I was given cipro to take. After day 3 I got sick and noticed mucus in my stools. I have been off cipro for over a week, eating lots of tuna and still there is mucus. No pain, no fever, no blood, just lots of mucus

Brief Answer:
Mucous in stool

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You were recently treated for a UTI with cipro and after that you noted a change in your stool with extra mucous. The extra mucous is due to a change in the bacterial flora in your GI tract along with possible dehydration. To help reset your bacteria flora I would recommend you take some probiotics. You can purchase them at any pharmacy. I would also recommend drinking extra fluids and possibly adding more fiber to your diet. The extra fiber will allow for stool to move through your colon and not need the mucous to lubricate the stool.
