What Causes Losing Of Skin All Over Feet In A Swimmer?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jun 2016
Question: Hello, my son is 14, and has naturally sweaty feet. He is very active, cross country runner, track runner, and swims on average 3 to 4 hours daily. He just finished his running season and is actively training for state swim meets. His feet are causing him problems. He is losing skin on all over the foot except the arch area. The area looks like wet skin that will not dry, maybe rot? What can we do?

Brief Answer:
Can be a fungal infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The losing of skin all over the foot is likely to be due to excessive swimming. Staying in water for a long time can cause such changes. A fungal infection also needs to be ruled out. Do consult a dermatologist for proper prescription antibiotics for early healing. Avoid swimming till then and try to keep the feet dry.
I hope this answers your query.
