Brief Answer:
I think there is need for treatment

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns. The symptoms mentioned over here is definite indicator of depression as social exclusion, loss of interest in almost all pleasurable activities and feeling of boredom with indecisiveness are common symptoms of depression.

The possibility becomes more as both thyroid disorders and diabetes are contributor to the development of depression. For example a person with diabetes have almost double chance of developing developing depression in compare to a person who is non diabetic. Similarly hypothyroidism can also manifest with symptoms of depression along with increasing risk to depression.

Having said this I feel SSRI group of medication should be the best option considering your age, thyroid and diabetes status. Although there are many medications in this group but Escitalopram 10 mg could be the better choice as it has less side effects and do not interact with other medications. Since it is prescription only medication you will need a prescription from local doctor to buy from pharmacist.

I hope this helps you,.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.

Dear Doctor,
Thanks for the response, I have given a thought of going to a doctor couple of times but I am unsure if they would actually listen and understand my issue. I feel that they would put me under medication and sedatives immediately which would further deplete my position as I already feel very sleepy all the time. I feel lethargic most of the time and really uncomfortable going to a doctor. I had once gone to a homeopathy doctor who listened to me until I spoke for a minute and a half but did not ask any further question or symptoms and gave me some medicines immediately, I felt wasted and embarrassed too.

I cycle a lot to boost up my mood, (25-40 kms per day/ 3 times a week) I go for Yoga session (3-4 times a week) too and keep myself engaged and productive to rejuvinate my innerself. Though I stay away from my family, by choice, (we are a happy family) due to my job and location constraints.

I am losing interest in my job and I find it difficult to make new friends or company and I do not enjoy much of companionship too which is very different from my original self 5 years back, though people around me still enjoy my company and tell me that I am a source of high inspiration and motivation and knowledge for them.

Am I Bipolar?

Please suggest me some alternate OTC medicines and therapy, please!

Brief Answer:
There is no evidence of bipolarity

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for reverting back to me.

I am glad to know that you are doing much to boost your mood but believe me when there is significant depression things do not help in way they are supposed to. Going for cycling, yoga sessions are good options but in severe depression they do not help to a significant degree.

I understand that most doctors are busy but I think most psychiatrist listen their patient to significant degree. In case you feel even the psychiatrist do not listen you I well recommend you to see the junior most psychiatrist in your city as they are more oriented to patients and often have more time than XXXXXXX psychiatrists. I am recommending this because I feel a simple OTC unlikely to help you at this stage.

From the available information I do not feel you are bipolar. There is no evidence you were hyperactive or had flight of ideas or pressure of speech or expensive behavior to call it bipolar disorder.

This is my personal experience as most people with depression serve the society from their core of heart and deserve lot more than what they get. I think you are one among those service oriented person who developed incidental depression.

I hope this helps you further.
Thanks and regards.
