Suggest Remedy For A Hormonal Problem

Dear Madam, I am 27 yrs old. I stopped having my periods in 2006 for 6 mnths. I had eves care & it resumed after 6 mnths. Then when i stopped having eves care it again stopped. Meanwhile i started suffering from anorexia bcoz of which my weight dropped & i suffered for severe protein deficiency in 2008, becuase of which i had massive swelling in my legs. i was hospitalized & put on albumin shots for 4 days & within a mnth i was cured. At that time the hospital docs asked me to go to gynaec for getting this gynaec problem fixed. The doctor told me that because of drastic weight fall my overall hormones were imbalanced. So it would be best to first regain my weight come back after say 4 mnths & then start treatment. However my anorexia took a turn for the worse. As an aftermath i started binge eating & went through severe depression. I never went to gynaec in between bcoz i was so caught up in my depression. It took around 1.5 yrs to recover. & i put on weight from 32 kg to 48 kgs.

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello,

You have irregular periods and even amenorrhea. This can be due to hormone imbalance. Poly-cystic ovary syndrome, thyroid gland conditions like hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, stress and too much exercise are the most common causes for irregular periods. If you were my patient, I will ask to do some hormone tests like: Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone level and a thyroid hormone panel. Apart the hormone tests, a pelvic ultrasound is also necessary to check for possible causes that explain your irregular periods.

My advice is to consult a local OBGYN without delay because it is necessary to find the cause of your problem. Only then you can have the right treatment and feel better.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Elona Xhardo, Endocrinologist
