What Causes Lightheadedness With Swollen Turbinates Of Ear?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Jun 2014
Question: I had a severe vertigo attack a year and a half ago . I have been light headed ever since. I have been to and ENT and at this time have an ear tube in that ear, along with other procedures, as the turbinates were entirely swollen shut.

Brief Answer:
need further investigations

Detailed Answer:
Hello Madam,

Light headedness can be due to 2 main reasons.
1) Problems with the central nervous system.
2) Problems of the inner ear.

At your age problems of the central nervous system are quite common and so you will have to be examined thoroughly by either an ENT or a neurophysician to come to a diagnosis.

Tubes in the ear can account for puffing sounds in the ear but not light headedness.

Again there are many causes for giddiness secondary to ear conditions the most common being BPPV.

A thorough examination and investigations is the only way to come to a conclusion.

Do not fret. If it indeed turns out to be inner ear problem then it can be easily and effectively controlled by medicines.

Thank you for your prompt response. The feeling of fullness and light headedness Is definitely involving the right ear ( vertigo side ). I can feel it as I sit here and type. I did go to an ENT for a year for all the other treatments It is a process of elimination I guess. This has been terrible,no pain at all ….just a pain in the you know where!!!

Gratefully, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
need evaluation from a neurologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Sorry for the delayed response, I was travelling.

I totally empathise with you.
Many times we remain baffled as to the origin of the vertigo. Inspite of all the investigations many times doctors remain puzzled as to the source of light headedness.

But i would definitely recommed you to see a neurologist.
Considering your age ( physical only... ) central causes of verigo should be ruled out.

Also if the ENT doctors have been unsuccessful in coming to a diagnosis then it makes it more possible that the problem is of central origin.

Regards,
Dr Rajkishori Godhi.
