What Causes Light Yellow Vaginal Discharge?

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Jun 2017
Question: I have an odorless thin light yellowish discharge and I don't know if it from my vaginal or from urine. I do have some burning after I urinate. My vaginal area feels dry, no pain of any kind. When I used the Monistat cream it feels better in that area. I had a total hysterectomy more than 15 years ago.. The discharge is seen only on my underwear or a panty liner. No nausea or abdominal pain. No fevers. This started about 2 days after I had sex with my boyfriend and I was dry in the vagina area and I don't know if his thrusting caused any damage or not. But I also had a bowel movement and stool had gotten in my vagina area. I have been told that I have a rectrocele. I cleanse as well as I could so I don't know if this caused this. I could not tell how long as for time that stool was in my vagina area...hours? I had the bladder surgery and had the mesh sling implanted years back but I still have problems with frequent urination and not completely emptying my bladder. Using the Monistat cream seem to give it moisture and comfort but did not take away the discharge. It has been a week now having these symptoms.

Brief Answer:
Some secretion is acceptable. Unless foul smelling you need not worry.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Let me assure you that some amount of vaginal secretions is normal and unless it is turbid and foul smelling it is not a cause for concern. However, since you have a burning sensation prior to passing urine I would insist you to get your urine tested for routine microscopy and culture sensitivity. It will help in ruling out urinary tract infection. As regards the vaginal discharge as well as the dryness you feel there, hormone deprivation could be the cause. If that is the case, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) could provide relief. Had the sexual act caused damage, you would have observed bleeding. Since that is not the case, I would consider it within acceptable range.

Monistat is a Vaginal Antifungal and can be used from time to time. However, it is unrelated to the secretions and would not help for the same.

Let me know if I could help further.

Regards
