What Causes Large Mass In The Lower Abdomen That Disappears After Voiding?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: Hi... I have a large mass in my lower stomach that I can move from the left to the right side sometimes. I think it's my bladder since it usually goes down after I relieve myself but it is pretty uncomfortable when it’s full and makes my lower abdomen stick out pretty far. A couple months ago I had a gynecologist remove a tampon I had left in for probably about 3 months and she put me on antibiotics for that. The follow up exam with the gynecologist was “normal”. I don’t have any increased urgency or frequency of urination. I’m a type 1 diabetic

Brief Answer:
Normal lump due to full bladder.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The painless ass in the lower abdomen that disappears after voiding is urinary bladder only. You can start urinating more frequently to avoid that bulge. This is a normal physiological bump.
Since your gynecologist has already examined you and nothing abnormal has been detected there is no need to worry.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

I don't feel like it's normal for me. I just started feeling it a few months ago and I don't have any urgency to urinate. If my bladder's so full it's bulging out of my stomach, shouldn't I feel an urgency to go? Why would I not feel this normal bulge my whole life til now? And it is pretty uncomfortable. I've had two non-consecutive days the last month with very painful cramping.

Brief Answer:
The urge depends on bladder capacity.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The urge to go for urination depends on your bladder capacity and it increases with pelvic exercises. An occasional cramp that you had last month could be an intestinal cramp. Just to confirm this you can consult a urologist.
Hope my answer is helpful.
