What Causes Itchy Skin Behind Thigh And Red Painful Spot In Buttocks?

Posted on Thu, 6 Aug 2015
Question: Two concerns:

1: itchy patch of skin on back of thigh. See picture 1. Put anti fungal and tea tree on it. Seems to be clearing up. Eczema, fungal, psoriasis, Allergy?

2: once that began to clear, red painful, spot in butt/leg crease just above the rash. Seems like a cut or split skin See picture 2. Treating the same way but with neosporin because it seemed like a cut. Any thoughts?

Brief Answer:
continue with same treatment and provide more information

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I had gone through your question and photographs you have uploaded very diligently and I will try to help you out in best possible way.

Here I would like more relevant information for better assessment of the condition.
Is there any history of discharge or pain in the surrounding area.?
Since how long it has been there?
Have you been recently exposed to new allergen like clothes or any environmental exposure.

Since patch on back of thigh has already started clearing so continue with the same treatment as in picture 1.

You should clean the cut like skin split with an antiseptic solution and apply antibacterial ointment like mupirocin or soframycin.

Please revert to me with all the relevant information I have asked for so that I will be able to tell you more accurately.
wish you good health and speedy recovery

No discharge. It hurts /stings like a cut would, when rubbing against other skin or irritated. Weather has been very hot/humid lately and this popped up 24-36 hours before pic taken after rigorous cleaning/housework. Had applied lotrimin antifungal spray earlier that day to dry out skin. Perhaps became too dry and split? Had previous bacterial/staph infection near this area 2-3 months ago. Worried that Internet says it looks like herpes but no new exposure, married, but what if I've had it all along? Never had this kind of bump before.

Brief Answer:
Herpes is unlikely, apply calamine powder/lotion with anti allergic drug

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome again
This could be contact dermatitis or allergic reaction
In my opinion you should apply calamine lotion/powder or any other moisturising ointment
Keep it clean and moist
don't touch it or rub it
Simply prickle the calamine powder over the involved area and anti allergic drug like fexofenadine or levocetirizine is advisable.

It doesn't seem to be Herpes infection

If.it doesn't heal or improve in 2 to 3 days than you may need to see a doctor for physical examination and further course of action.

Hope this answers your question
Best wishes
