default
Posted on Wed, 12 Aug 2015
Question: I am 28 and my weight is 48.5 and married. My period cycle is normal of 28 days but recently i faced bleeding in 15 days which was very very low but it delayed my period cycle by 8-10 days.
I am not sure what caused it. Is it normal? I have observed that when ever i put on some weight My periods gets delayed and when I loose weight the cycle is normal.
Should i get some tests done? We are planning for baby now will it cause any issues?
What are all test that I should carry out to make sure everything is fine and I am healthy enough to conceive?

Brief Answer:
Relax, maintain menstrual diary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
Once in a while it is normal to have slightly irregular periods.
Conditions such as stress, anxiety, travelling, unusual exercise, weight gain ( as you have rightly stated ) , late nights, changes in food patterns - all these can affect your menstrual cycles.
Generally you do not need any investigations unless you have been trying to conceive unsuccessfully for a year.
Keep track of your menstrual cycles, maintain a diary .
If 3 consecutive cycles are irregular, then consult a gynecologist.
You can go for the following tests -
INternal exam.
Pap smear
Pelvic ultrasound scan done transvaginally.
Hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, AMH, Prolactin.
If all these are normal, and still you fail to conceive, you can go for second line of tests such as -
Semen analysis .
Follicular study ( tracking ovulation through serial ultrasound scan )
Laparoscopy to check if your fallopian tubes are open.
MEanwhile, take regular folic acid supplements.
Since how long have you been trying to conceive ?
Are you aware of the proper days during which you have maximum chances of conception ?
Relax, and do not stress out.
You are young, and your periods are regular, you just had one episode of irregular bleeding, and that should not worry you.
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further.
