had taken my dietary supplements just after the tylenol 3 when it was just pain in my back--then shortly--in about 20 min--intense pain in L chest akin to the intensity of passing a kidney stone( but in chest)--is now starting to subside somewhat--perhaps it was the worst indigestion ever

Brief Answer:
Can be acute gastritis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The symptoms which you have described can occur possibly be due to acute gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, hiatus hernia (in this a part of the stomach goes above the diaphragm – the muscular partition of chest and abdomen), acute inflammation of the gall bladder due to gallstones (cholecystitis) or acute pancreatitis.

An ultrasound should be done to rule out the possibility of gall bladder disease. Doing blood tests like serum amylase and lipase should help in ruling out pancreatitis.

A CECT scan of the upper abdomen is the gold standard test to rule out acute pancreatitis.

It makes sense to consult a gastroenterologist for the same .

Drugs like omeprazole and antacids along with prokinetic drugs like domperidone/itopride should help you in improving the symptoms.

I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.

thank you--i had a cholecystectomy in 2010 so that is not the problem. i have been having trouble with chronic cough and shortness of breath for a long time too. also, long standing fatigue and weakness and intolerance to heat--even though my thyroid is now trending towards hypo (instead of hyper--as it was at one time--i had a partial thyroidectomy for a large nodule last april). i also have extreme thirst and tired gritty eyes, plus raynauds. none of these issues have been diagnosed but i am seeing my pcp on the 22nd and will bring all this up to him then. a gastric problem would be something new in the mix. although when my calcium was sky high from the parathyroid disease i did have gastric problems then. if you have any input on these other issues i would appreciate it. i've seen 7 doctors (2 surgeries--one for the thyroid problem--they couldn't find the parathyroid adenoma--then a second --thoroscopic--looking for the adenoma again and again not finding one--now they feel it is secondary hyperparathoidism due to low vit. D levels). most of the endocrinologist 's blood work is going back to normal. but still i'm absurdly tired and weak, SOB with dry coughing, very thirsty and very dry eyes plus i've had the raynauds for about 10 years and its getting much worse. plus restless leg syndrome which is much worse lately too. the episode today was something new--however the pain in my upper back has been going on for about 2 months. if you have any ideas please let me know. my current medications are cozaar, metoprolol, norvasc, vit. D, trazadone for sleep, 200 mg gabapentin for nerve damage from the thoroscopic surgery (which so far is not helping) and valium 5 mg prn at hs--may be repeated once (i tend to not take the valium unless absolutely necessary). i just recently started taking a multivit. and an omega 3. i'm overweight--216 lbs at 5'7"--but am exercising 2 to 4 times daily on a recumbant bike for 20 to 35 min each time, and have so far lost 20 lbs. thank you for your time and advice please let me know if you have any other ideas

i just read up on pancreatitis--i did drink heavily from about age 52 until 57--when i first became ill with the problems i have now--my first problems were kidney stones. i have not been drinking for about a year and a half. whatever is wrong with me makes alcohol very unappealing--if i could bottle it, i would have the cure for alcoholisim. i did not drink when i was younger. i forgot to mention that my tongue and mucosa inside my mouth are often sore in addition to the extreme thirst. my triglycerides and cholesterol are high, although improving with diet. i cannot tolerate the statins.

Brief Answer:
Needs proper evaluation in a clinic.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
You have multiple problems that need a detailed evaluation after a close examination. It is difficult to diagnose online without the benefit of an examination. It is best to consult your physician to rule out pancreatitis.
