What Causes In Groin Area After Protected Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: Hi Doc. About 4 days ago, I had a sexual encounter with a new partner (it was a handjob and protected oral sex, but there was lots of saliva that may have reached my groin area. Yesterday, I noticed a lesion/rash on the crack between my testicle and inner thigh. It is thing, long, and red/pink. It is a little sensitive to the touch if I press or rub it hard, and runs along a crack in that area. Is there a significant possibility hat this could be herpes or another std? And, is there nothing that I can do other than wait 4 weeks to get tested for reliable results?

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry appears to be allergic rashes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query at HCM.
I understand your concern and situation.

I would like to tell you that it is not a matter of worry as it cannot be STD because of the rapid appearance of lesion. According to me this could be due to allergic reactions to latex or friction related. You need to do nothing just keep the area clean and dry. If the lesion persists for beyond a week then you can get evaluation done. But yes you can take the tests after 6 weeks to be on the safer side and wait for few days for STDs which are too unlikely as intercourse was protected.

Take care.

Hi doc. Many thanks for your answer and knowledge. I have a couple follow up questions. Isn't it normal for heroes symptoms to appear 2 days after exposure? And, theoreticall a condom would not necessarily protect against skin/saliva reaching and infecting that area (around the genitals), correct? Thanks again!

Brief Answer:
No herpes cannot occur in 2 days.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

It is impossible for anyone to get symptoms of disease including herpes after two days of exposure. The symptoms usually appear after 2-4 weeks and depends from disease to disease it may vary. Yes condom protects from saliva and so infections too. But latex of condom can be allergic and cause rashes due to allergen or friction.

Best of health.

Sorry, but I just need to clarify, the area with the lesion is not covered by the condom (between the restocked and leg), so it would not be protected correct? And, I have been on about 50 different websites that say that genital herpes symptoms can appear in as little as 2 days. So, these websites are all providing misinformation?

Just to clarify, the websites are government and university sites, so I just thought they were reputable.

Brief Answer:
Your lesion are not typical vesicles of herpes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Earlier I was talking about typical lesions of herpes i.e group vesicles, severe painful rash not possible to occur within 2 days. Your symptom appears more like allergic rash. The test is not effective until 3 months after exposure, as the body can take up to 3 months to produce an immune response and antibodies. Even if it is herpes there is no cure for the herpes simplex virus and treatment is not essential as the outbreak of genital herpes will usually clear up by own. In your case the first diagnosis is allergic if it will persist then other diseases need to be overruled.

Let us not talk about websites writing health information because our discussion would go away from our priorities.

Take care
