What Causes Hypotension While On Treatment For High BP?

default
Posted on Fri, 28 Aug 2015
Question: Hi, I have hypertension and am on 40 mgs of Lisinopril as well as HCTZ. I recently took 1/2 of a viagra about a week ago. This morning I woke up with very low bp or hypotension, some readings as low as 96/57 and 95/57 with a pulse in the 80s and 90s. My pulse is usually around high 60s or 70s. I feel okay but need to know if I need to consult a physician soon -- like tomorrow, as opposed to a visit to the ER. As I said, I feel okay.

Brief Answer:
Actually, you are not on an urgent medical condition.

Detailed Answer:

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

i understand your concern, and would like to explain that, as you are on high BP therapy and have experienced hypotension, the first measure to undertake is to avoid taking antihypertensive therapy until BP values are returned to their usual values.

As you feel okay for the moment there is no reason to be on panic.

Just have a plenty of fluids (water and other nonalcoholic drinks, for an optimal hydration), avoid prolonged staying upright, and recheck frequently your BP values.

If those low BP values persist for a couple of days, probably there is a need for treatment doses modulation (decreasing drugs doses). You need to discuss with your attending doctor about this issue.

Actually, you are not on an urgent medical condition; so just consult your physician when it would be possibly without any hurry!

If symptoms appear during the day, you may ask medical assistance to the nearest ER service in your local area.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

Feel free to ask me whenever you need! Greetings! Dr. Iliri
