What Causes Hot Flashes, Sweating, Anxiety, High Pulse Rate And Rapid Heart Beat?

Question: Hi!
I have been having some issues.
For a long time, every now and then, I get really hot and a bit sweaty after eating, especially big meals. The other day I even went to the emergency room because I suddenly started sweating much from forehead and inside palms of hands. That day I had not eaten very much all day, until I ate dinner very late at evening. Dont know if there was a connection, but at the emergency room they took EKG and said there was no heartattack going on as they could tell. I felt really anxious when the sweat started. Kind of shaky feeling and like something was off. Heartbeat to, like really hard heartbeats, maybe elevated pulse when resting.
To day it started again. Ate a slice of bread for breakfast, and then nothing before maybe four hours later, when I ate a slice of chocolate cake. Started feeling like having a fever, and then sweaty palms and forehead. And a bit anxious again. Telling myself its not heartattack. But wondering if there is a connection to bloodsugar or some insulin thing?

Brief Answer:
Please attach some exam results.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome and thank you for asking!

From your description the symptoms are suggestive of hypoglycemia or low blood pressure but when you went to ER i think they have checked the blood sugar and blood pressure at that moment.

As you described at the second time it happened while you were eating a cake or very soon after. This is not common in hypoglycemic events, they are treated by eating sugars.

Anyway, a detailed clinical examination and some lab examinations would be of help in these cases. A 24 hour ECG monitoring(Holter) would be helpful too.

If you have done any such investigations lately please do not hesitate to attach them so i can guide you what to do further.
Kind regards,

Dr.Mirjeta

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,

Then a cardiac arythmia is ecxluded.

I would recommend to check the blood sugar and blood pressure at that moment and do some
laboratoric exams if you haven' t done lately.

When I see someone like you in my practice, I typically order the following blood tests in addition to a detailed physical examination:

CBC (Complete Blood Count, also known as Hemogram; includes Hemoglobin, WBC and Platelet counts)
Electrolytes (Sodium and Potassium in particular)
HbA1c (Glycosylated Hemoglobin = your last 3 months' glucose average).
Liver function tests (SGOT , SGPT, Albumin, Bilirubin, Alkaline Phosphatase)
Kidney function tests (BUN, Creatinine)
TSH (checks your thyroid)
Free T4 (this too checks your thyroid)
Reactive C protein
Calcium

None of these tests require any fasting and can be done at any time of the day.
Please attach the results if already done/ when you will have them.

Kind regards,
Dr.Mirjeta
