default
Posted on Mon, 10 Jul 2017
Question: You were correct with gastresis. But now I still am having a tough time keeping food down and in a constant state of nausea. Stomach "talks" all day long. They are telling me this is all linked to my hernia. Throwing up bile.

Brief Answer:
Gastritis is due to Herniation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for query dear.
Don't worry they are all classic features of the patient having Reflux and Gastritis.

A hiatal hernia is a condition in which a small part of your stomach bulges through a hole in your diaphragm. This hole is called a hiatus. A hernia itself can play a role in the development of both acid reflux gastritis and a chronic form of acid reflux called gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Initially, they are managed medically and if not relieved then surgery is done.

Start medicines as I am suggesting and you will start feeling better in 2-3 days.

Take a proton pump inhibitor like Pantoprazole 40 mg twice daily along with a prokinetic drug (eg.Domperidone) for 5 days. This will provide you symptomatic relief from symptoms of Gastritis (you may need to obtain a prescription for this from your local physician).

Antacid like Pepto Bismol can be taken for few days along with it.
Any over counter probiotic like Econorm should be taken for few days to provide relief in symptoms of indigestion.

Apart from this, some dietary restrictions are to be followed-

- Avoid alcohol or smoking.
- No aerated beverages.
- Take light non-spicy easily digestible food for few days.
- No Fast food like pizza or burger should be taken.
- Drink a cup of cold milk daily.
- Avoid fatty foods.

If not relieved in 5 days, an endoscopy may be planned to rule out any peptic ulcers or H.pylori infection and to confirm the site of herniation.(Very unlikely) after visiting your Physician.

Do follow-up after 5 days.
Regards
