What Causes Fever, High Pulse Rate And Severe Pressure In The Chest?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Dec 2016
Question: On Thu/Fri I felt weak and on Sat was shivery. I'm 59 and healthy but both parents died from a heart attack with little warning. Sat eve/Sunday were torrid with a fever and a high temperature but no thermometer to give any figures. I felt constantly sick and could feel horrible yellow bile in my stomach, but only a little ever came up. Add to this picture chronic rhinitis which my go refuses to take seriously and not to mince words I've got snot pouring out of me. No diarrhoea and no sore throat. My step daughter and son 11 have now gone down with it too. So I was most panicked by my high pulse and the pressure on my chest during the fever. What are your thoughts? I was in bed drinking water but unsure what to eat and when. What could I have done better? I suspect I'm not the toughest soul but this was very unpleasant and coughing has made my chest sore. Thanks for yr help.

Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your history and description, it appears to be a respiratory tract infection and rhino sinusitis. The chest and sinuses need to be examined. X rays for both the chest and para nasal sinuses can be advised. A course of antibiotics like a quinolone (levofloxacin ) can be advised accordingly. An EKG can be done , just to be safe w.r.t dyspnea (if any) and the family history.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
