Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: My daughter is 13 months old and weighing 7.8kgs, her birth weight is 2.64kg. Nowadays since last 15-20 days, she turns feverish for some couple of hours and then look normal afterwards. Our opinion and analysis says that when directly below the fan air, she increases her body temperature. Consulted a doctor also who measured her temperature by a thermoneter and it was normal that time. I don't know whether I should worry because it may be due to teething also or occasional constipation. Should we do some tests to better diagnose this ?

Brief Answer:
Common in tropical summers, but she is underweight

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic. I understand your concern. But at the same time I also want to reassure you that in this summer climate and especially in tropical areas, it is very common for the body temperatures to raise and fall according to ambient temperatures.

No need to do any tests unless she develops any other localizing signs or any other physical complaints or ailments.

My suggestion is that, check the temperature and if it more than 100F, only then you need to worry. Otherwise no need to worry. One way to prevent this is to give plenty of water and other fluids so that the body excess heat will be going out in urine and additionally it help in hydration too.

If really temperature is more than 100F. You can give Paracetamol in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose. That is you can give Syrup CROCIN (120mg/5ml) 5ml every 4 to 6th hourly.

Apart form this there is something else which I want to bring to your notice. Your kid is less than 5th percentile a compared to her birth weight and age. Kindly get back with the following details -

1. What is her length?
2. How are her developmental mile stones?
3. Is she otherwise active?

Hope my answer was helpful for you. I am happy to help any time. Further clarifications and consultations on Health care magic are welcome. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer. Wish your kid good health.
