What Causes Excessive Sweating, Disturbed Sleep Pattern And Rapid Weight Gain?

Question: I am going through menopause. I am 61 years old but I only started menopause a couple of years ago. I have been experience several health issues within the last 5 years - fibroid tumors causing me to have my uterus removed in 2011 and then back problems ( a hernia) which is still a problem. Also I have arthritis in my knees and my big toes. So you see these things make like a bit difficult. I also have major hot flashes where I start SWEATING just out of the blue - I have medication for that which helps a bit. I also have crazy sleep patterns - where I keep waking up HOT or COLD. So sleeping is a problem. That's the background. The reason I am writing is because I have gain so much WEIGHT over the last 5 years too.

When I was younger I could go on a diet and exercise plan and lose weight but these last few years ... I feel like I am LOSING MY MIND. I CAN'T remain committed to my eating habits etc.. I just seem to 'fly away ' mentally. I have not stressor in my life. I live alone in a lovely house that I love, I work our of my home about 3 - 4 days a week. I like my job. I don't have many friends but the ones I have are good people. I see a couple of guys kindof casually, just for fun. I go our regularly for music fests etc (now that all the above has been managed).

So there is no reason for me to feel so UNHINGED and unable to eat right and exercise. I can only think my memopause is causing this craziness?

What do you think?

Brief Answer:
Hormonal imbalance

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
I have gone through your details. I understand your concerns.

There can be few explanations for your symptoms:
First is hysterectomy. It can cause hormonal imbalance which may be responsible for your symptoms.
Second is attaining menopause. This is another phase of hormonal imbalance.
Third could be a thyroid disorder which can cause similar symptoms.

So, please get yourself evaluated for thyroid functions.
Second, the treatment for your symptoms could be drugs like SSRIs (paroxetine or fluoxetine). These drugs (available on prescription) can help to relieve you symptoms.
You might need hormonal replacement therapy.

Kindly discuss this with your doctor.

Hope this helps.
Thanks.
