Question: Hi,
i had intercourse with my husband on May 8 and 9th 2015, and had my menstural cycle on May 10th for 3 days.
On May 14th, i felt dizzy couple of times and from May 15th, i have started having lower abdominal cramps and my left side of the stomach has a feeling of tightly being pulled. I feel it continuously.
I feel very thirsty, heartburn and moodswings alot (crying frequently on silly things).
I feel very bloated like some kind of pressure in my left side tummy, i dont feel like bending or folding my tummy. Also, very exhausted, feel like taking a nap by mid day with leg cramps as if I am about to get my period.
Please suggest, Am not sure If I am pregnant?

Thank you
Sweety

Brief Answer:
need some details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM.
Dear Sweety, I understand your concerns.

The chances of pregnancy are minimal as you had your periods after intercourse.
But, to reach to a definite conclusion, I need some more details:
1. Have you had these symptoms before? If yes, then how long does these last?
2. Do you have regular period? Flow?
3. Are you taking any medicines/pills?
4. Do you have these symptoms prior to menses sometimes?
5. Have you undergone any investigations?

Kindly provide answers to these questions.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks.

Brief Answer:
probably post-menstrual syndrome; symptomatic treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.
Sorry for delayed response.

Your symptoms are suggestive of post-menstrual syndrome.
This entity, although not a technical diagnostic term, is commonly seen in woman of reproductive age group.

I have seen some patients complaining of abdominal cramps, nausea, sweating and mood swings, up-to two weeks after menses.

There is no definite evidence about the cause for it but may be due extra sensitivity of some woman to hormones. This may also be an extension of premenstrual symptoms.
I don't think there is any relationship of this with intercourse prior to menses.

The management is usually symptomatic.
You can take OTC painkillers like ibuprofen and antacids.
Drink lots of water.
Practice relaxation exercises like deep breathing and yoga.
Eat more green vegetables and fruits in your diet.
Ensure that you take adequate sleep and try to keep yourself stress free.

If needed, a psychological consultation can be considered for mood swings.

Having said this, I would advise you some basic investigations which will help to rule out a medical condition causing these symptoms:
Ultrasound whole abdomen.
Complete blood count.
Urine complete examination.

You can consult your local doctor or if possible, revert back with the reports of investigations.

Hope I am able to address your concerns satisfactorily.

Feel free to ask further.

Take care.
Thanks.
