Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: hi I had a baby 9 months ago and returned to work in oct 2015. since returning to work I feel I cant multitask like I used to and have no energy and a very foggy head which makes me panic and thinks there is something wrong with me. I have had bloods done and all ok. my doc says im not sick and thinks it could be Post Natal depression. I take Xanax when its really bad and it takes away the foggy head. is this normal to feel like this after having a baby. I feel like im climbing a mountain everyday and I just cant think clearly

Its completely normal

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Do not panic and be depressed, it's a daunting task to manage your home, baby and office together.
Every working women goes through this phase and you are not the only one.
Even I, even after being a doctor, has gone through the same phase.
I will advise you to enjoy each moment of growing up of your baby, as these will never come back.
Take the help of your partner to manage the baby.
Try to be stress free at work.
Eat healthy diet and start exercises.
All this will help you come over through this problem.

Brief Answer:
A week or two

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I am always here to help you.
Excessive exertion at work, disturbed sleep due to baby and managing all fronts make one feel like mad.
But this situation improves once the baby grows older, and you become a bit more systematic.
Jogging, exercises and yoga increases the endorphins level in the brain and body, which makes you feel good and energized.
Effect of these exercises will come in a week or two.
However, if the heaviness in the head us still there, then you sshould consult a neurologist to rule out migraine, as it commonly occurs in post pregnancy period.
Be positive and happy.

Dr Deepti Verma
