Questions and answers on "Xanax"
My daughter has been taking Xanax for 20 years. Her Dr. will not fill another prescription because she has quit her practice. My daughter has a new Dr. with her 1st appt. in early May but until then we are very worried about what will happen without the daily supply of Xanax. Is there something she can take to get her by until her new Dr. prescribes Xanax.
HI Thanks for using healthcare magic
I think, she does not have any another alternative. In benzodiazepine dependence, either we use longer acting benzodiazepine or sedative antidepressants, but both of these, you can't get without prescription. In that case, you can try to consult another...
I am prescribed xanax (0.25 mg) as needed for anxiety. I've read a lot of different opinions online, and so I'm wondering how long is safe to wait after taking it to drink alcohol. It also interests me that on the bottle it simply says "may intensify effect", but looking online it seems like people seem to think you will die.
Welcome to Health Care Magic Hope you are doing good. Do not drink alcohol while taking Xanax. This medication can increase the effects of alcohol. Xanax may impair your thinking or reactions. Xanax starts to work within about an hour after taking the pill. The level of drug reaches a peak in the...
I have used Xanax for my PTSD and it has helped me over the years. I have had this condition for over 10 years. The VA does not approve of this as a treatment and wants to put me on Zolof instead. I am against anti depressants since the effect libido. Xanax has worked just fine. My PTSD has gotten worse over time with added stress. I want to stay on Xanax since it lessons my anxiety problems with are caused by ptsd. What do you think.
Hellom You are right to continue with xanax for the problems and not shift to zoloft as it can give sexual dysfunction. But, also look at the worsening symptoms of ptsd and consider the ineffectiveness of dosage of xanax to handle it. Moreover xanax will never treat ptsd..it is just postponing...
I would like to know what happens if you smoked crystal meth and snorted xanax . What are the effects? I migt be naive on this one a bit. I was reading up on ice and the effects and side effects and i would think that taking the xanax would help with the stress ans strain on the heart from the shortness of breath and rapid heart rate and what not.
Crystal meth damages the blood vessels of heart and brain, causing fast heart rate and excitement in the short term, and heart attack and stroke in the long term. Taking Xanax simultaneously cannot prevent this damage. Xanax can lower the heart rate only when it is due to anxiety. It doesn't...
I have a prescription for Xanax, and I am very concerned about side effects. I have been prescribed the Xanax for mild anxiety and depression What are the pros and con's of taking Xanax. What about difficult withdrawal symptoms? Will it impede my auto driving?
Hi there, thanks for asking. Xanax is a medication which can treat mild anxiety. It also improves the mood as a possibly weak antidepressant. However, it is better to limit its usage after the age 65. It is metabolized by the liver, and liver capacity to do is decreased after the age of 65. It...
89 yo female prescribed xanax .50mg given at 9am, 12pm, 4pm and 6pm. plus tramadol for sleep. Isnt this abuse? Falls, choking episodes, new onset of incontinence, agitation, worsening confusion up hourly Md suggests giving extra doses of .25mg for breakthrough "anxiety" I can't watch this any longer What can I do to stop/help her?
Brief Answer: Doses appear high to me.
Detailed Answer: Hello, Thanks for your query. I appreciate your efforts for medical consultation in so much distress.
I am a 28 year old female and I have been on xanax for the past 6 months due to extreme anxiety and a few incidences of panic attacks, mostly related to uncomfortable social situations and my job. After 3 months, I asked my doctor to increase my dosage from .5mg 2x/day to 1mg 2x/day, as I felt I had built a tolerance to the drug. I never drank while on xanax, and was actually completely out of the prescription when I had an isolated incident of alcohol poisoning that was reported by the hospital to my doctor. He immediately removed me from the xanax and prescribed me vistiril instead. Vistiril did not help at all - it just made me feel sluggish. I was upset that he just took me off xanax as it was effective in treating my anxiety and I assumed there should be a weaning off period. Is this true? When I told him the Vistiril did not work, he refused to allow me to go back to Xanax because of its addictive properties. He then prescribed me Buspar, which I heard from a friend gave her terrible headaches and nightmares and thus, I was afraid to take it. I have had problems sleeping since being off xanax and my anxiety levels are on the rise. Was my doc right in the decision he made to cut me off cold turkey? If I KNOW that it helps me should I go see a different doctor that will listen to my needs more, since I know what works for me?
Hi Thanks for using healthcare magic
i think, you have generalized anxiety disorder and in that case, along with benzodiazepine, you also need antidepressant like paroxetine. That would help to control anxiety as well as dose of benzodiazepine. You can discuss all this with your psychiatrist. If...

To answer your query xanax is routinely prescribed for anxiety irrespective of age. However there are indications for prescription of drugs for older people, this indications start if the conservative (no drug) approach does not...
About a month and a half ago I got on benicar 20 mg. to lower my blood pressure. I have always been on orthotrycyclin and occasionally xanax. (5 mg) The pain started close to three and a half weeks ago. I was on different antidepressants for 15 years and finally got off of all of them for a period of about a month and a half. Then, I was on my period and had a horrible sharp pain in my lower left side. I chalked it up to be gas and after awhile the pain subsided. Several days went by and during this time the gas got a lot worse. I was constantly burping and the other CONSTANTLY and the pain was all over. My stomach was in complete spasms. I then began to have loose watery and greasy yellow diarrhea from time to time, sometimes constipation and straining with yellow or green stools. My Dr. felt around on my stomach and said he didn’t feel anything. He said this was prob due to the antidepressants and serotonin levels. I had a vagus nerve reaction in his office and nearly passed out. I lost close to 6 pounds and have yet to gain it back. I am tired all the time and light headed as well. My short term memory is terrible and I can barley concentrate. Also, for a long time now I have had tingling pins and needles which come and go in my feet and my hands (mostly the left side) this went on before the stomach problems. . It started after I quit taking the antidepressants. Recently, I had black greasy stools with streaks of bright red blood in them . . . Then today I had yellow diarrhea again with constant cramping. My lower back is in a lot of pain now, especially at night when I lay down. I also have slight nausea with all of this which comes and goes. It’s usually the worst in the morning. One night, I had explosive black diarrhea which lasted for an hour and a half and I was peeing constantly throughout the night, as well. I recently had blood work done and gave a urine sample and am waiting to gv a stool sample to my Dr. My gastreo appt is not for another month, but I am in a lot of pain and want this to all go away so I can go on with my life

In the last few weeks, I have started having like a hot flash in my neck and checks; almost like I m blushing. I suffer with lack of energy, depression and anxiety (grieving loss of spouse of 30 years and mother) but this is a new situation. Currently being treated for high blood pressure with HCTZ in the morning and Norvasc at night. I take vitamin D (5,000 IU) daily along with CoQ10 and Xanax PRN. I m 64 and thought I had gone through menopause already. Could this be the anxiety/depression and if so, what supplement could I take to help. I have no insurance so medical testing is not an option at this time.
Hi, having a problem on going down on my meds. My old doctor has left and had to find another Doctor for my Chronic pain before and after surgery was performed with a bone harvest. All of my cervical have some sort of problems. Now this doctor is taking me down on both my meds at once. Having a huge problem with this and being on both meds for over 8 years is a problem in going down on the dosage. The biggest probem is the xanax of taking 3day 2 pm total of 5mg. I am down to 2 mg at pm only. However it seems like this is the bottom line for me. Trying to take less will not allow me to sleep. The daily anxiety well just have to wait it out, and that s a problem as well. This doctor also took me down at the same time with my oxycotin 20mg 3x day and not only take 20mg 2x daily. In my opinion she has taken me down far too fast for being on for so long. My biggest question is WHY ? My next question would be what is the point if I suffer from hyperthyoidism and chronic pain at all times with a flatten spinal cord. Help is needed in coping with daily and nigh time withdrawls for HOW MUCH LONGER at this dosage if she stops and leaves me at this dosage ? Does this make sense ?
